Preview Fri 10 Dec 2010 5.30-8.00pm, Exhibition 11 Dec 2010 – 22 Jan 2011

(please note our closing times over the Xmas period: we close at 7pm on
Thursday 23rd Dec and open again at 11am on Tuesday 4th of Jan 2011)

So disliked and derided by some was R.E.M's 1991 hit single Shiny,
Happy People the singer Michael Stipe is said to have asked it be left
off their greatest hits album released the following year.
Whether the song was mean to be ironic or not, in the following years
the cynicism with which the song may have been originally met may well
have turned to a relief that we are actually capable of smiling given
the potential futures described by scientists and environmentalists.
Perhaps we now better understand that it is more desirable to happy
and shiny than miserable and dull!
Zuzanna Neziri's photographic portraits seem to bridge the space
between posed publicity shots and the open expressions captured
when a person is relaxed and unaware of the camera, when the
artificial becomes real.

Zuzanna Neziri is a final year PR and Communication student at
Sheffield Hallam University. She grew up in Wroclaw, Poland.
